Raising Ducklings – Clean And Easy Setup To Raise Ducklings In The Brooder

Here’s a cute but informative tutorial video from Homesteady that details a brooder setup for ducklings that keeps mess to a minimum. Ducklings are notoriously messy and this setup keeps mess and stink to a minimum.

The setup requires four $20 plastic Rubbermaid tubs, with two being in use – enabling you to swap out and clean the two that are not in use, and create a system where the tubs are rotated.

Heat lamps are hung on ratchet straps, which allows the height to be set just right. The chosen lamps have a protective cover that keeps the lamp safer; if an ordinary lamp were to fall into the dry sawdust it could potentially cause a fire.

A clever water trough is deployed that prevents the ducks from swimming in it and keeps the water much cleaner. Same goes for the feeder, which keeps the food clean and dry.

Finally we see the use of a home surveillance camera system, enabling you to monitor your ducklings from a remote location. The “Nest” camera setup is wifi enabled and you can even monitor from a mobile phone, as well as using it as an intercom.
