Awesome Survival Uses For Drinking Strawsimage – (CC0)

This video shows a clever method of packing small essentials inside drinking straws. The whole concept of this is ingenious as you get to carry small supplies of the things you normally will not be able to bring when out for camping, without burdening yourself with a huge pack.

Before packing, make a full list of the things you will need. In addition to food, camping gear and clothing, there will be several additional essentials. Items such as sunscreen, bug spray and medicines may be necessary when camping. But again, it is important to keep your pack as light as possible and maximize space. A bulky and heavy pack is just too troublesome and chances are you will not be able to enjoy your camping experience as much as you’re supposed to.

Because of the clever method of sealing them, you can use the straws as containers for dried spices, medication and liquid substances such as oil and mouthwash. You can also convert it to a fire straw where you stuff it with cotton and Vaseline or other tinder materials, making it easier for you to build your campfire. A sealed straw is also a good storage for your matches to keep them from getting wet.

This video demonstrates just a few of the many useful applications that drinking straws can be used for while camping. Make sure to label or color-code the straws so you can easily identify them.

Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises…

Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...

  1. I was thinking, it would be easier and faster to use a piece of paper and make a funnel into the straw so you can pour the spices in.

  2. two words……FREAKIN GENIUS!!! Love it! And, I have seen larger diameter straws as well….likely either the large or standard, available at the dollar store. Now….this is one of those items you MIGHT be better of at the local chain grocer or, even Wally World….for a lower price. Shop around a little…the price difference I suspect will be negligible…and then it’s one to STRAWMANIA!!!! Hey, Christmas is coming…what a cool gift idea! The possibilities are ENDLESS…well, there’s a lot of’em!
