Here’s a great infographic you can copy, share and print out to keep with your survival gear.
If you are not kitted out with the right supplies, you are going to have a much harder time in a crisis. At first, prepping can be intimidating because there are so many options and so many scenarios that one might wish to be prepared for. It’s hard to know what to buy in advance without being able to know what the future will bring!
The best strategy is to start with the absolute essentials and things that you already use daily. Pay careful consideration to food, water, shelter, medical supplies and personal security. It’s generally advised to have a minimum of two weeks’ supplies of food and water in your supply at all times. Once that base is covered, you can both extend the “depth” of your supply to cover you for longer periods, and start to acquire items that will be valuable in various other survival scenarios.
Other supplies that you need to include in your stockpile:
1. Spices and sweeteners (salt, pepper, sugar, honey, syrup, etc).
2. Canning supplies including the jars, lids, pressure cookers, etc.
3. Hygiene supplies such as shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, mouthwash and floss.
4. First aid kits.
5. Over-the-counter medicines (Tylenol, Advil, cold & flu and cough syrup).
6. Toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels.
7. Flashlights, lanterns, and glowsticks.
8. Batteries and fuel.
9. Common tools.
10. Containers for storing and transporting water and food.
11. Bio-chemical hazard gear (masks, respirators, gloves and goggles).
12. Backpacks, duffel bags, large garbage cans and garbage bags.
13. Sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, mats and inflatable mattresses.
Don’t buy a year’s worth of food in one week. Start by building a two-week stockpile; then increase it to a month. Rotate your stock. Keep adding a month at a time until you reach the point where you feel you have all you need. Last piece of advice; study, practice and take every opportunity you can get to sharpen your survival skills.
