Geodesic domes are innovative structures that are light, strong, relatively inexpensive and potentially easy to dismantle and transport. Often used for temporary shelter and events – such as festivals – the geodesic shape is also sometimes utilized for more permanent dwellings.

A geodesic dome is approximately hemispherical in overall shape. Its “shell” consists of a framework / latticework of rods joined in patterns that create a surface made up of connected triangles. The dome is then typically covered with either triangular panels or a fitted canvas. The triangular elements of the frame are rigid and create a strong structure with very good load distribution. Geodesic domes are surprisingly strong for their size.
