This awesome video shows a great super-secret hiding place for your valuables that is easy and inexpensive to make! It can be put together at home using simple materials that can be bought at your local hardware store for less than $3. All you need is an extra-long electrical gang box, a blank wall plate, a marker, a tape measure, and a knife.

If a burglar were to enter your home, what would be the first he’d look for to find your important items? He would be looking for the most common place people would place their valuables in: A safe. But is your safe really “safe”?

Our secret safe was made by making a simple hole in the wall using a knife, placing the gang box inside that hole, and securing it in place by tightening the screws to tighten the flaps, and after the placing your valuables inside the box, simply covering it with the wall plate. If you find that this is too small to use as a safe, you can always double up and use a double-sized gang box. What a great way to hide valuables “in plain sight”. Now that this tip is out in the open though, use your creativity to come up with other hiding places in your home.

A few tips:
(1) Be careful in handling the knife. When cutting a hole in the hole, be sure to cut carefully and not too deeply. Use a cable finder tool. There may be wires hidden behind the wall so be careful.
(2) When cutting the wall, try to be as accurate as possible.
(3) You can place a plant or a piece of furniture in front of the secret safe to subtly hide it without being too suspicious.

This is a sure fire way of hiding any small thing that is of great value to you. And this beats having to spend hundreds, even thousands, of dollars on that huge safe that draws too much attention to itself. When it comes to security, invisibility is a fantastic strategy. Use decoys. Another idea is to get a real safe, but only put a small portion of your valuables in there. Let a thief waste their precious minutes on that while they miss the main haul. Another great decoy tip for when traveling abroad is to put together a “fake” wallet containing out-of-date credit cards and a few small bills, keeping your real wallet close to your person. Once any thief has found the ‘dummy’ wallet, they will make off and only when they examine the contents in detail, later, will they realize that they were tricked.
