How To Make A Rope From A Plastic Bottle. Photo – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMgnUtTyCcM
When plastic bottles reach the end of their short lives, we only have three options on what to do with them…
1) Discard. This is the least popular option because it poses a serious threat to the environment. Even if it ends up in landfill – did you know that the average time for a plastic bottle to break down is going to be at least 450 years? Now that’s too many years. And this is not true biodegradation as often, it will just continue to break into smaller plastic pieces but still remain polymerized. Discarded plastics also end up getting consumed by animals and are causing horrible environmental problems, not to mention becoming part of the food chain which means that – yes, you guessed it – we end up eating them too.
2) Recycle. This is good – but bear in mind that we are still making plastic out of plastic.
3) Upcycle. This involves making something new from the plastic bottle and so giving it a “double lease of life” – meaning that less plastic overall is used. It’s a step in the right direction.
Now we’ve seen many options where people make something new from plastic bottles but to be honest most of them didn’t impress us because they fall into the category of “making junk out of junk”. However check out this brilliant “low tech” tutorial for making plastic bottles into rope. It turns out that these ropes are very durable; when enough strands are woven together, it is claimed that they can even tow a car! (Though we are not shown exactly how many strands are required for this).
In the video Mr. Gear is shown creating a simple cutting contraption and demonstrating a technique he developed to create a kind of super strength rope from a plastic bottle. You just need a blade (the video makes use of the blade from a pencil sharpener but other varieties will work just fine), washers and screws. This device will create spools of plastic rope that have a very wide variety of purposes – from DIY, arts and crafts through to repairs and more. The rope is amazingly strong for its thickness – with a strip of an ordinary Coca-Cola plastic bottle with a width of 4 millimeters being able to take a load of 7 kilograms. Weaving together numerous strands adds to the tensile strength depending on the number of strands and the weaving pattern used.
This plastic rope – or the simple parts to make it – will be an excellent addition to your survival kit. Cordage becomes a source of life for you in the woods and without it, survival life can be very difficult. You can also make rope when you are in the field if you are able to find the right plants but honestly, packing some in your gear is so much easier. With these plastic bottle ropes, you will get durable cordage while helping the environment.
Safety note: I would advise against using these ropes for critical applications such as climbing, this is because for safety you need a rope that has been tested to perform correctly under those kinds of loads. Home made ropes such as the ones in the video are untested and while they may be strong, we cannot advise you to use an untested rope in a critical application. Having said this, if you are in a “SHTF scenario”, this tutorial could enable you to make a usable rope where you had none before. Ok, here’s the video:
This Crazy Off Grid Device Literally Makes Drinkable Water From Fresh Air:
According to NASA, the U.S. is expecting a 100-YEAR LONG MEGADROUGHT.
It's already begun. Ask the farmers in California. They know.
Every survivalist knows that water is of critical importance. You NEED an independent water source that you can count on!
As an interesting "survival rehearsal" - imagine that you turned the tap on right now and nothing came out. How long would you last?
But what if there was another water source literally hidden in plain sight. That's right, I'm talking about the atmosphere!
The amazing thing about getting water from the natural moisture in the air... is that it is ALWAYS available.
This gives you real water security!

What Tinnitus Does To Your Brain Cells (And How To Stop It)
After 47 years of studies and countless brain scans done on more than 2,400 tinnitus patients, scientists at the MIT Institute found that in a shocking 96% of cases, tinnitus was actually shrinking their brain cells.
As it turns out, tinnitus and brain health are strongly linked.
Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises...
Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...
Most People Don't Have The Guts To Try This:
An amazing discovery in an abandoned house in Austin, Texas: A lost book of amazing survival knowledge, believed to have been long vanished to history, has been found in a dusty drawer in the house which belonged to a guy named Claude Davis.
Remember... back in those days, there was no electricity... no refrigerators... no law enforcement... and certainly no grocery store or supermarkets... Some of these exceptional skills are hundreds of years of old and they were learned the hard way by the early pioneers.
