A Snowboarder’s Unbelievable Tiny House. Photo – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sadOfmkTtpw
This video features the amazing story of professional snowboarder and photographer Mike Basich and his tiny home – which he built himself. After living in abundance, he finds greater solace in his simplified dream home… close to nature… after his retirement. He bought 40 acres of land deep in the mountains near Truckee, California and built a 225 square foot home right in the middle of it.
It took Basich five years to finish the tiny house which is made out of granite, pine, and Douglas fir harvested from the surroundings. The stone walls alone took him two and a half years to build.
The home faces south and is warmed by the sun through those huge panes of glass and a wood oven keeps the place warm at night. The property has two creeks that provide water for the home. The little house is completely off the grid which means it has no internet, no indoor plumbing and no traditional electricity but the property has an outhouse and a wood-fired hot tub.
However this is the part that reveals the true “gameplan” behind this property…. Basich also put up a chairlift with a 600-foot vertical rise (which took him eight months to build with the help of his friends) so he can take-off right from his front porch, run down the mountain, and get a ride back up to do it again!
The property is truly a snowboarder’s sanctuary. “I like to think of it as getting back to the basics of humanity. I like feeling connected to the earth more than I could with a 4,000 square-foot house.” Basich said in an interview. “I go to bed with the sun and wake up with it. I don’t feel like I’m trying to race time. Like in a city you always feel like you are in a rat race. And here it feels like you are in sync with what is actually happening”, he added.
