40 Ways To Go Greener At Home … Besides Just Recycling. Photo – Adobe Stock (under license)
We found a fantastic page of 40 simple tips for things you can do at home which will have environmental benefits. This is a very good list indeed – not only are the methods practical and easy, but they are actually “genuinely green” also – as opposed to just greenwashed. The link to the full list is after our commentary.
As individuals, it is our responsibility to do what we can to assist the environment. It’s simply not enough to assume that it is someone else’s job to take care of it. The good news is that with some knowledge, there are many things you can do.

As our world becomes more technologically advanced, it is easy to live in a “bubble reality” and become more negligent of our environment. However it is important to remember this: It all comes from somewhere, and it all goes somewhere. I like to say “there is no away” – in reference to “throwing things away”. The old saying of the Native American Chief “What we do to the world, we do to ourselves”, really is absolutely true. It’s not a fairy story at all.
Nature has given us everything that is free in life – the air that we breathe, the trees that provide shelter, the water that we drink, the animals that help maintain the balance of our ecosystem, and much, much more. We’ve already taken more than what our earth can give, so let’s try to become more responsible and think about the future generations. We want them to appreciate what we have right now.
Make it into a habit. I know that it takes a lot of effort to change, but once you begin doing these basic steps everyday, it will soon become a routine.
There is just one criticism I have on the list:
#2 – CFL bulbs contain mercury and are a toxic hazard. The best solution is LED lighting, which is low energy consumption, long lasting, difficult to break and much less toxic to dispose of. The CFL bulb thing always was something of a “greenwashing” scam.

What Tinnitus Does To Your Brain Cells (And How To Stop It)
After 47 years of studies and countless brain scans done on more than 2,400 tinnitus patients, scientists at the MIT Institute found that in a shocking 96% of cases, tinnitus was actually shrinking their brain cells.
As it turns out, tinnitus and brain health are strongly linked.
Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises...
Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...
Most People Don't Have The Guts To Try This:
An amazing discovery in an abandoned house in Austin, Texas: A lost book of amazing survival knowledge, believed to have been long vanished to history, has been found in a dusty drawer in the house which belonged to a guy named Claude Davis.
Remember... back in those days, there was no electricity... no refrigerators... no law enforcement... and certainly no grocery store or supermarkets... Some of these exceptional skills are hundreds of years of old and they were learned the hard way by the early pioneers.

More Off-Grid And Survival Resources:
Many great, simple ideas. Thank you. May I suggest that #40 be researched a bit more prior to actually donating. Many of the bigger “chain” thrift stores tend to trash many donated items, not to mention for someone truly in need, those low prices are actually very high to the truly needy. There are tons of not for profit organizations, as well as shelters for women and children and of course the homeless that can’t afford to trash valuable items that other places waste.
