It’s become an in-joke that duct tape / duck tape is all you need for a complete toolkit. Whatever needs fixing, duct tape can do it! Although this is of course a slight exaggeration, the number of uses for it are astounding and some of them have elevated duct tape use to an art form.

This cool video by SoCraftastic will teach you how to make your own wallet with practically nothing else but duct tape! Gets the job done.

Endless arguments circle about whether the correct name is duct tape or duck tape. The truth is, the terms are so interchangeable that it doesn’t really matter unless you are referring to the trademarked brand, which is Duck® Brand. But, expecting that arguments would for sure break out in the comments, we decided to investigate and settle it once and for all….

During the 1940’s, the US Military asked Johnson and Johnson to create a waterproof, cloth based tape that would be strong and impermeable enough to keep moisture out of ammunition cases. At first it was called duck tape, because it was first made from plain cotton duck cloth with adhesive attached to it. In later years, the name was changed to duct tape because it was commonly used in a lot of ductwork. And now, just to make things confusing, there is a famous brand called Duck® Brand. There are now so many variations of duct tape, including polyethylene backed and cloth backed forms – but originally the first material consisted of long strips made from plain cotton duck cloth with adhesive attached to them. So now you know! 😉

Duct tape has innumerable repair uses – and now people have started to make interesting crafts from it. Some of these have become “extreme” and highly creative. Another interesting use is that when folded many times lengthwise so that it makes a thin strip, these strips have some strength and can be used as a kind of cord.

Duct tape’s fame as a survival tool rocketed (literally) during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970, when it was used to save the craft from disaster. Duck® Products even sponsors an annual contest to make a prom costume entirely from the tape, and the results are remarkable!

Another variation of the tape is “gaffer tape” – which is cloth backed, can be torn easily and is designed to be removed cleanly after short-term use. I would suggest keeping a roll of both duck and gaffer in your survival kit. Gaffer tape (much more expensive) is a staple in the entertainment industry on film sets, productions and in live sound environments and you’ll see the techs with rolls of it attached to their belts. Refer to their gaffer tape as duct tape and they might roll their eyes and shake their heads… 😉

The weirdest use of duct tape? I would definitely say “for wart removal”. For this, you will need the plastic-backed tape and to leave it on for several weeks. The way it works – apparently – is by starving the wart of oxygen. More here – http://www.herbs-info.com/blog/10-strange-home-remedies-that-really-work/

What Tinnitus Does To Your Brain Cells (And How To Stop It)

After 47 years of studies and countless brain scans done on more than 2,400 tinnitus patients, scientists at the MIT Institute found that in a shocking 96% of cases, tinnitus was actually shrinking their brain cells.

As it turns out, tinnitus and brain health are strongly linked.

Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...
