VIDEO: Quick And Simple Life Hacks - Part 1

Life Hacks are clever tips to help you with all sorts of everyday tasks. This two-minute video from HouseholdHacker shows ten very diverse and simple hacks to solve some of your most common household problems.

We all have these sorts of issues at home and they can really be frustrating – there’s no need to put up with them any more! Life Hacking isn’t a new idea – for example here are some 100-year-old Life Hacks that are still useful to know: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/27/life-hacks-100-years-ago_n_4164829.html

So many things can be fixed up with products that you already have at home, without you having to buy specialised (usually expensive) gadgets or chemicals that do the same job. Here we see some novel uses for Coke, vinegar and olive oil to name a few.

One of the best tips here is first up in the video; a screw that has a damaged head can leave a project floundering but who would have thought of using an elastic band to solve it? This works because the elastic is compressed and becomes hard inside the screw head and then grips over the whole surface area inside the head, giving you a much better chance of removing it. Another similar tip: if you come across a screw that has been painted or is stuck, tighten it a little first to break the paint and unstick it – this will prevent using too much force and damaging the part of the head that you will need to unscrew it.

There was one that I did not think was good: I tried storing my garbage bags in the bottom of the trash but don’t recommend it – if a bag of trash gets punctured (very common of course), your new bags could get messed up. If you don’t have a microwave for sterilising your dish pad as this video suggests, pouring boiling water through it is a good alternative – the idea is to kill off bacteria that are the cause of the smell. Either way is better than using harmful chemicals.

😳 What Tinnitus Does To Your Brain Cells (And How To Stop It)

After 47 years of studies and countless brain scans done on more than 2,400 tinnitus patients, scientists at the MIT Institute found that in a shocking 96% of cases, tinnitus was actually shrinking their brain cells.

As it turns out, tinnitus and brain health are strongly linked.

Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises…

Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...
