This video is an amazing demonstration of the potential benefits of permaculture – as taught by the legendary Sepp Holzer, one of its leading experts. What is permaculture? It’s an agricultural system that provides for the needs of the community without any degradation to the environment. Resources are managed using “closed loop systems” to create an intelligently-managed farm that is both ecologically sound and commercially viable.
Permaculture is especially important in the light of the destructive methods being touted by “Big Ag.”
One of the simple techniques of permaculture is the concept of companion planting. This uses plant “families” to create a mini-ecosystem where each plant supports and provides the needs of the others. There is a natural exchange. Plants regulate themselves extremely well when in the right environment – not only eliminating the need for wasteful or destructive external inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, but enabling massive yield increases – on a far vaster scale than those promised by GMOs. Creation of natural cycles within the permaculture farm enables “nature to work for you”. Cooperate with nature, don’t confront it.
One of the astonishing features of Sepp Holzer’s system is its water management. Over 70 ponds have been installed, and these influence the ecosystem, creating a unique, thriving microclimate.
Understanding of permaculture is a true “game changer” and could be an essential part of our healthy future. Once grasped, the full insanity of the pesticide madness of standard Big Ag is revealed.
