I bet you never thought it was possible to build a cabin for under $500 but this video will prove you wrong! 😉 It features a 10ft x 10ft log cabin which was completely made by hand. It is simple, quaint, charming and cozy; everything that a cabin should be.
It is located in the middle of a forest and the builder made used of the logs from nearby trees as walls. Tarps were used as roof and although this is not the best choice for a rooftop, it fared really well for the small cabin though it will need to be replaced every five years or so.
The uploader is a youth pastor who thought that building a cabin on the church’s land in the woods would be a good project for the youth to work on. Although he did most of the work, the youth would join him after school and during the weekends. It was a great way for them to learn new skills, make friends and gain self-confidence. When the cabin was finished, it was donated to the church and the youth group.
The total area of the cabin is 10×10 feet so (in the region the cabin was built in) there is no building permit required. However you will need to check the regulations for your area to be sure. Recently, there have been some issues regarding civil disobedience for choosing extreme downsizing.
Currently in some places, RVs and sheds do not require permits because [note this is not legal advice and we advise you to do your own fact checking on this!] they are considered non-permanent structures. The Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed a law that would regulate the building permit exceptions in these tiny houses and RV living. [1] Researching the existing laws will help before doing any building or purchasing.
The video is very relaxing to watch. The main thing that it aims to tell us is “Simple offers more… Simple offers freedom.” Surely, one doesn’t need much to be happy and content with life. You just have to know your heart’s desires and follow them.
