First things first: Do NOT attempt to recharge a single use battery using an “ordinary” battery charger! There is a risk of fire or exploding batteries, not good.
I did not even realize that recharging regular alkaline batteries was truly possible, until I discovered a post that highlights the use of a special battery charger that actually does the job!

It claims to be able to recharge ordinary alkalines up to 30 times, after which point they become unstable. So here is the caveat – you need to be able to keep track of how many times you recharged the battery. One reviewer uses a sharpie to make a mark every time the battery is recharged… this seems like a good solution.
Another thing to note is that it only recharges the batteries to around 80% full… so you will not get quite as much life out of them as a brand new battery. Also, really old batteries may have gone “bad” – but the special charger recognizes these and lets you know! 🙂
This is a super off-grid product and technique – by recharging these old batteries you are reducing consumption, reducing pollution and saving money! So many of these things are discarded by folks that you should never need to buy a small cell ever again. This charger is a godsend for people into robotics or any other activity that uses a lot of small batteries. My only regret is the sheer number of those expensive 9-volt duracells I have thrown away over the years….
I wanted to be sure that this is good – so I checked out the battery charger that they are recommending on Amazon… and sure enough, it actually works on ordinary alkaline batteries! There are a ton of reviews for this product and most of them give it 5 stars! People state quite plainly, yes it works on many kinds of batteries including alkaline.

So, is the charger you are speaking of something you make or something you purchase? I thought you were going to show us how to make a charger. What you wrote is confusing. Just tell us, do we have to purchase a charger from a store in order to recharge unrechargeable batteries?
I bought one of these based on this article, when it first appeared, and the Amazon reviews. Don’t waste your money!!! Every single battery I’ve recharged has leaked. I’ve checked and rechecked to make sure I was using it right, and I am. I charged the batteries and put them aside to use a bit later, and ended up with a handful of battery acid. Not fun. The batteries that I used right away only ran for about half a day, and then leaked in the devices I used them in. If I was still in the time frame, I’d return it.
