Hens need a haven where they can sleep and take care of their eggs properly, which is why building a chicken coop is essential if you want your chickens to grow up healthy. The video shows how to build the coop using recycled wood. You will need basic carpentry skills to make this project work and if this is your first time then seeking the help of those knowledgeable will help.

Did you know that for each chicken you should have at least four square feet for it to live comfortably? So if you’re planning to get started with five chickens in your coop then you should have at twenty square feet of space – though extra space is always helpful. “Free range” implies a certain generosity that is perhaps not always practised. It is very important to plan how many chickens you are going to have so you can proceed in making the ideal size and dimensions for your coop.

Chickens need shade in the heat of the day, so it is ideal to place the coop under a tree so they can be cool in summer and bask in the sun during winter once the leaves have fallen off. If you don’t have trees then you can make use of a shade cloth.

The coop should have elevation and proper ventilation as well as adequate insulation. You should also be able to access the coop without any hassle since you’ll need to clean the space regularly and collect the eggs.

As shown in the video, you don’t need to buy new materials in building the chicken coop though you might need to buy new nails or screws to ensure the sturdiness of the building. When you are finished with all the planning and collecting the materials, it is now time to start building.
