This video from list25 showcases an awesome collection of useful cleaning hacks that combine simple knowledge with common household items in order to get the job done. Most of these cleaning tricks focus on the kitchen – including hacks for most of the kitchen appliances.

Some of these we had already come across, such as the bag-of-vinegar for the showerhead trick – but there are bound to be several here that you weren’t aware of. The use of an old pillowcase to clean a fan blade is ingenious. I would suggest to damp it slightly first also.

Some more highlights:

• Half a grapefruit plus salt for a bathtub scrubber (the citric acid will work against scale. A lemon will work just as well.)
• Aluminum foil as a scrubber for bakeware.
• Use white rice and then baking soda to clean a coffee grinder.
• Use a slice of bread to pick up shards of broken glass.
• Use a rubber squeegee to pick up pet hair from carpets.
• Use vodka in a spray bottle to clean and deodorize a mattress (this was a first!)

A significant number of these hacks use vinegar and / or baking soda. Baking soda is a fantastic deodorizer and I keep a small open packet of it in my fridge – works beautifully.
