Here’s a great video demonstrating ten simple techniques to save money, save time and increase success in a vegetable garden! These are great simple techniques that make much use of things that you already have around. Here’s a run-down of the tips in the video (video at end of article):

1) Turn a garden tool into a measuring stick by marking measurements on the handle.
2) Four techniques for labeling plants at zero cost. I particularly liked the smooth pebbles with the plant name written on them. That beats plastic every time!
3) Use a terra-cotta pot as an overnight seedling protector. Just remember to take it off when the sun comes up!
4) Use sticky tape to remove aphids from plants.
5) Make water reservoirs to “drip feed” plants in dry areas.
6) Save water from cooking vegetables and use for watering the garden.
7) Soak pea seeds in lukewarm water overnight before planting to aid germination.
8) Plant peas and beans using old cardboard toilet rolls. This enables you to plant them out without disturbing the roots, as the cardboard tube will just break down. You can also use old newspaper.
9) Use vertical gardening techniques to maximize space in a small garden.
10) Use garden planning software, this will reduce the risks of planting at the wrong time or spacing the plants incorrectly.
