Watermelons are your quintessential summer fruit. They are so refreshing, sweet and quite filling. Not only is watermelon good for eating, it’s also great for juice detox!

This wonderful summer fruit belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. Cucumbers, cantaloupes, squash, pumpkins and cucumbers are also included in this family, which is thought to have originated in southern Africa. By the 10th century, watermelons were known to have been cultivated in China. Today, China is now the world’s largest watermelon producer.

As for its nutritive properties, a watermelon contains about 6% sugar and 91% water. It’s also rich in vitamin C. The red fruit is a good source of lycopene, a substance that is known for its anti-cancer properties. You can get the most nutrients out of the watermelon by storing them at room temperature and eating them as soon as they are sliced.

Watermelon quenches your thirst during the hot summer days, but did you know that you can also eat the rinds? People in China use them as a vegetable and they have them stir-fried, stewed or pickled.

If you love eating them, you’d be happy to know that watermelons can help prevent certain diseases. [1] Did you know that the rind contains more nutrients? This is the reason why the rind has to be included in the detox juice. Watermelon rind is considered a good natural source of citrulline, an uncommon amino acid. It has also been shown by some studies to provide relief for muscle soreness. [2] [3]
Citrulline has also been reported to be a dietary precursor to producing nitric oxide which is a physiological factor in relaxing smooth muscle in blood vessels and erectile organs. It is thought that it may even have a “viagra-like effect”! [4]

Detoxingforlife on Youtube uploaded a tutorial on how to make detox juice from fresh watermelons. A juicer is a great machine to use but of course, not everyone can afford it. A great alternative is to use a blender. Slice the watermelons and peel the skin off but keep the rind. Cut the sliced watermelons into cubes and put them in the blender. Squeeze a little bit of lemon and add a bit of honey. Blend everything together and then pour the contents in a bowl lined with cheesecloth to strain the pulpy bits. This juice is great when cold so keep it in the fridge if there’s still a lot left over.

    I love watermelon juice, I use the lot skin and all, I also put ginger root in it. plus other vegetables and fruit to have a different flavor there are lots of different ways of juicing watermelon.
