If you are someone who likes to go camping then this video will appeal to you. This super video shows Yankee Living making an ammo box into a wood stove which can also be converted to a grill and can also provide heat for the tent during cold nights. This could be perfect for backpackers and those who seek for adventure!

You can buy ammo cans for as low as ten bucks and they are made from solid steel that is well suited to this project. You will also need to buy other materials such as the exhaust pipe and galvanized damper. All in all it will cost around seventy to eighty dollars which is a good bargain if you consider that a packable stove costs around four hundred bucks in stores. It is also lightweight as it weighs only ten pounds. You can easily pack it up and you’re good to go. It is really cost efficient and very useful for camping.

You will not need a lot of things to make this portable wood stove but a basic knowledge of wielding metal can be helpful. The guy in the video seems to have done it a couple of times but for beginners a little care and research would not hurt. Make sure to wear protective gear if necessary. There is no need to do very strict measurements as you can see in the video. You can do your own estimates and it will work just the same.

One thing to keep in mind is you need to light up a fire before using it whether in cooking or keeping your tent warm. This is done to let the oil or any residue inside the ammo can and pipes to burn off. Those chemicals can be harmful when taken in large amounts so burn those up first.

The video is very thorough and it did a good job in providing step by step instructions that even beginners can follow. But if you really haven’t done any metal work and wielding before then I recommend that you seek the help of people who know this kind of work.
